Durga is one of the most emblematic and perfect personifications of the Supreme Shakti, and is mentioned with awe in the Vedas and other scriptures of Indian spirituality. Also known as Maha Devi (the Great – or Supreme – Goddess), Durga is the universal source of life, the Mother who always embraces the entire universe with unending gentleness and love, and the destroyer of evil, associated with the infallible Godly protection from all forms and manifestations of evil. Durga, the invincible one, has manifested and always manifests herself when evil has become too big, when a limit has been exceeded, when the atrocities, abuses, evils going on in the world are too much to bear.
